Support Us

March 2013

In order to support rural African communities take control of their own futures, SYFA-USA is creating a United States based environmentally-minded organization.

Towards that end, SYFA-USA hopes to create a number of programs and to raise funds to deploy them in Africa.  The intention is to work closely with the internationally recognized grass-roots environmentalist Tantoh Nforba, Farmer Tantoh and to help support projects he has identified to help the community.

These projects have the potential to significantly alter the way the community treats the environment and in turn improve the personal lives and well being of many people. A key goal of SYFA-USA is to involve the African community in the projects and to foster true local ownership.  This is the only assurance the projects will succeed long after the project is complete.

The strategy to develop local ownership is straight forward: SYFA-USA will help plan and partially fund projects.  However, projects cannot proceed unless the local community agrees to provide a share of the funding through donations and by providing local materials and labor.  This allows projects to be financed which are beyond the means of the local villagers, but still allows them to retain the pride of ownership to assure they will continue to support the project for years to come.

At the same time that projects are funded SYFA-USA is working hard to create a number of educational programs to help the villagers embrace more environmentally sustainable practices in the ways they live, they ways they farm and the how they protect their environment.

Under Farmer Tantoh’s guidance SYFA-USA has a big vision which will make a difference in the communities in Africa and allow them access to safe sustainable water and to improve the environment they live in.  However, none of this will be possible without the help of people like you.  SYFA-USA needs volunteers to work with us and it needs financial support.  Please consider joining us and making a donation.
